Thanks for the warm wishes! Yeah, I'll try to keep this script updated until Telegram decides to strengthen their restrictions. But even then I'll do my best to bypass them.

Just checked, the script still works fine for me (in the WebK version).
Do you see the added Download buttons on the right click? If not, maybe the script is not activated.
Also try enabling Developer mode in chrome://extensions/ (on the top right)
